Hartford Institute Geriatric Nursing Research Scholars and Fellows are selected each year for an in-depth mentoring experience with nationally recognized gerontologic nursing researchers.

SCHOLARS: Attend a week-long, intensive summer seminar at New York University.

FELLOWS: Awarded $5,000 to support research. Attend a week-long, intensive summer seminar at New York University AND have five additional weeks of mentoring during the summer, in person and/or by email, determined mutually with a mentor.

GOALS:

• To foster successful programs of gerontologic research with significant implications for practice
• To assist in the refinement of a program of significant research
• To hone specific research skills and gain a competitive edge for funding

• Engaged in discussion and critical analysis of a variety of research problems
• Advanced and refined an individual program of research
• Refined skills and knowledge in specific areas of research

ELIGIBILITY:

• Completed accredited doctoral degree
• Academic affiliation with an accredited sponsoring institution in the area of the country designated for invitation in a particular year
• Demonstrated potential for outstanding gerontologic research
• Recommendation from a senior faculty member
• Opportunity to pursue research in the future

• Topics: Building Significant Programs of Research, Challenges in Research Design, and Measurement Issues. Participants will work on refining their own programs of research and will present issues to the group for analysis and feedback. Nationally recognized seminar faculty come from partnering universities and national geriatric and nursing organizations.

The Hartford Institute, New York University, has created partnerships with University of Illinois at Chicago, University of Iowa, University of Michigan, as well as maintaining partnerships with Senior Advisors at the University of Pennsylvania and Yale University to plan and implement the 2003 Geriatric Nursing Research Scholars and Fellows Program.

Invitational information will be sent to nursing programs in the Midwestern states of Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, Ohio, South Dakota, and Wisconsin.

• $500 materials fee for the seminar (waved for Fellows)
• Housing for the seminar week is provided
• Breakfast and lunch for the seminar week are provided
