REASN (Resourcefully Enhancing Aging in Specialty Nursing)

Recognizing that 20% of the nation’s practicing nurses are specialty nurses and to further address nursing practice excellence, the Hartford Institute for Geriatric Nursing (HIGN) partners with 14 hospital-based specialty nursing associations nationwide with a combined membership of over 200,000 to deepen and improve specialty nursing geriatric competencies.

The Hartford Institute accomplishes this through the REASN (Resourcefully Enhancing Aging in Specialty Nursing) initiative. The main objectives of this initiative are to:

  • Collaborate with specialty nursing associations to create new and sustainable geriatric training resources;
  • Create sustainable infrastructures for geriatric initiatives in REASN specialty associations;
  • Expand, enhance and create outreach capacity of Web Fellows at 40 specialty nursing associations to assure member access to geriatric best practices;
  • Enhance and expand association and the Hartford Institute’s project websites to better communicate and disseminate evidence-based geriatric nursing clinical content.
