HIGUS Hartford Institute Geriatric Undergraduate Scholars Program

The Hartford Institute has developed a competitive application development program for NYU College of Nursing baccalaureate program students.  The HIGUS program seeks to engage and develop undergraduate students interested in specializing in the care of the older adult through mentorship and additional training, utilizing the existing resources of the HIGN and NYUCN.

“As our population ages, it is extremely important to ensure that nurses are prepared to take on the care of older adults across settings. This program seeks to provide further development to future clinical and research leaders in geriatric nursing, ensuring safe, scientifically sound, holistic care is provided in this vulnerable population.” – Ab Brody, RN, PhD, GNP-BC Program Director

The Program includes

• Small Group Workshops with Interprofessional Faculty
• Mentorship from NYU Geriatrics Faculty
• Geriatric Focused Clinical Experiences
• Integrative, Independent Mentored Clinical Review Project
• Counts for 1 Baccalaureate Program Nursing Elective
• Access to all Hartford Institute Online E-Learning Modules

Eligibility Criteria:

• Students in good standing and have a minimum GPA of 3.0 in the
nursing sequence
• Accelerated baccalaureate students currently in the second nursing
sequence eligible for the fall cohort
