The Hartford/NOLF award was established to recognize
specialty nursing
organizations that demonstrate initiative in ensuring that
members acquire
the knowledge and skills necessary to help individuals age with
optimal
function, comfort, and dignity. The Hartford Institute for
Geriatric Nursing
was founded in 1996, and is the only nursing institute in the
country setting
a national agenda and shaping the quality of care of older
Americans through
education, practice, research, and policy initiatives. The
Nursing Organization
Liaison Forum is a formal part of the American Nurses
Association (ANA)
that serves as a platform for addressing important issues that
affect nursing
and health care in general.
The Hartford Institute for Geriatric Nursing at New York
University’s
Division of Nursing, in collaboration with the National
Organization Liaison
Forum (NOLF), announce an annual award for nursing associations
that demonstrate
exceptional effort in bringing geriatric nursing best practices
to specialty
nurses.
National specialty nursing associations that are members of
NOLF or
NFSNO.
Criteria for selection involves implementing activities of
the Specialty
Nursing Activities Criteria Partnership Program (SNAPP)
such as:
Promoting sustained commitment to distribution of
geriatric best
practices information in various formats
Establishing geriatric focus/interest groups
Organizing geriatric keynote speaker(s) and/or geriatric
workshops
for conferences
Disseminating best practices in geriatric nursing (e.g.,
Hartford
Institute’s Try This: Best Practices series) to
membership through
association publications
Displaying the Hartford Institute’s Resource Center for
Care of
Older Adults (exhibit) at yearly national conference
Linking geriatric-related websites (e.g., Hartford
Institute’s
site) to specialty association website
Selected associations each receive $500 and a plaque for
display.
Recognition for the award takes place at both the associations’
national
conferences and the annual NOLF meeting. In addition, selected
associations
receive substantial publicity.
