THOMAS W. LANGFITT, MD
Thomas W. Langfitt is a Senior Fellow in the Management Department of the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania. He served as Chairman, President and Executive Financial Officer of the Pew Charitible Trust and the Glenmede Trust Company until 1997. Prior to joining the Glenmede and Pew Trusts, Dr. Langfitt had been a faculty member of the University of Pennsylvania for 25 years. During that time, he served as Charles Harrison Frazier Professor and Director of the Division of Neurosurgery and was also Vice President for Health Affairs. Dr. Langfitt is a graduate of Princeton University and the Johns Hopkins Medical School and Hospital.
Dr. Langfitt serves of the Boards of Directors of Smith Kline Beecham Corporation, Sun Company, Inc. and the New York Life Insurance Company and is chairman of the committees on Automotive Safety of General Motors Corporation, which is advisory to the General Motors board of directors and senior management. He serves on the University of Pennsylvania Medical Center Trustee Board, and just completed a ten-year term as Charter Trustee of Princeton University. He is a member of the Institute of Medecine and the American Philosophical Society, which he served as secretary. He is a recipient of the Distinguished Alumnus Award of the Johns Hopkins Medical School and several honorary degrees.
